Weather #1

Our moods express a lot of who we are to the world every time we see someone or talk to them. We know we control our moods and maybe somethings affect our moods. What about weather, does that affect how we're feeling? According to Rich Maloof in his article Does Weather Really Affect Our Moods? the weather shouldn't affect the mood of an emotionally stable person very minimally or even not at all. His article goes on to talk about how to deal with fluctuating moods like that. I disagree. I am odd in that I'd rather it was rainy and cloudy than sunny and bright but except that fluke, when I wake up to find it overly bright out it ruins my mood a bit and when I wake up to the pitter of rain my spirit lifts. Maybe after that point it doesn't do much on my mood (mostly because I never see outside our dungeon of a school) but it still changes how I start off the day. While I have no scientific evidence in my favor I still think that how you wake up has an affect on your day and there for the weather affects our moods.

SOLD!

Sold an amazing book by Patricia McCormick. Sold into prostitution by her step-father. Lakshmi is thirteen. She lives in small town Nepal, when sold by her gambler of a step father to pay his debt and to feed the family in the warding drought. At first Lakshmi thinks she is going to live as a maid in a big fancy house. Then the woman who bought her first whom she calls her auntie sells her to a man she calls 'Uncle husband' because he says she can pretend he's her uncle but if anyone asks to say he is her husband. Together he takes her across the boarder to India. In India he sells her to Mumtaz. She is a cruel woman who runs a whore house. At first Lakshmi refuses to give herself up to her new life and Mumtaz tries first to beat her and then decides the only way toget her to do what she wants is to drug her. She drugs Lakshmi in her tea and a man with 'fish lips' breaks her. In the end she says the only american words she knows "My name is Lakshmi. I am from Nepal. I am fourteen years old."

Peter Pan

Last night i re-watched Peter Pan and Hook. Then i remembered I hadn't finished reading the third Peter book! The books are amazingly written each character from the classic Disney movie perfectly captured with a more realistically terrifying twist on it. Smee, Captain James Hook, Peter Pan, Mary, George Darling, all are beautifully represented and described. Each character fits perfectly into the story we all know. The back story playing perfectly into it, explaining every quirk of every character, every moment in who they are. I love the mermaids they're so gorgeous and so helpful. I then went back and re-read all the books. The description and ideas in the story here are so gorgeous. The star catchers add this great twist to the story line and a perfect explanation of the most mystical parts of Never land. Every question you could ever have asked about Never Land history and every question you didn't think of are answered in here.

Button Eyes

SUCH AN AMAZING BOOK! Coraline by Neil Gaiman is one of my favorite books ever. I had to re-read it before the movie came out on Feb. 6th. The book is so unique and vivid. Almost too scary to read but too good to ever put down. I almost question the sanity of my 4th grade teacher who read it out loud to us. The imagery both mental and the original art is gorgeously horrifying. Coraline is insightful, brave, and normal as you or me(what am I saying I'm not normal). The creative characters from the talking cats, the devious other mice/rats to the other mother's good right hand.

When the other mother steals Coraline's mother and father and the souls of past children Coraline makes a bargain and begins a hunt for them. Other mother can't let her win and pulls out all the stops the world tearing itself up against Coraline. Coraline is brave, I aspire to be her, and she's younger than me.

The shortest JK book!

The Tales of Beedle the Bard. It's the book Dumbledore leaves Hermione in book 7 (those of you who don't know what I'm talking about go read the books!) Hermione translates the ruins in the book. Dumbledore's comments on each story are after it, very entertaining. The stories are supposedly the bed time stories of the wizard world of Harry potter. They are cute witty little stories, I like them. The wizard and the hopping pot is cute and made me laugh, the point is to help those who need you. The fountain of fair fortune is cunning and happily ever after never was funnier. The Warlock's hairy heart was mildly morbid and depressing but still has a moral, deep down i guess. Babbitty Rabbitty and Her Cackling Stump is funny and fun to say, i guess this on is my favorite, part of it is about being who you are. The most famous The Tale of Three Brothers. About these three brothers (amazing) who cheat death and each receive a magical item from death in return for conquering him. All in all I liked it, applause for JK.

The third book of the trilligy.. but not the end.

Brisingr! Oh i am annoyed with Christopher Paolini!! First off, fail marketing wise, he took too long to come out with book three all the anticipation died. Secondly, the movie that came out, FAIL, it was nothing like his books so instead of turning people on to the books i know a few kids who hated the movie and decided not to read the books. The third book however did not disappoint, i enjoyed it even if it just kind of ended abruptly. I cried at a few points so I was very enthralled. The book was good but deep down i expected more. With Harry Potter we all knew we were getting into a seven book series but I only wanted three books on Eragon and his adventures. Now though the story isn't over yet so I will read the next hopefully last book but this all makes me sad. Eragon's story is taking a spin for the worse I think, some characters are living happier but most's lives are depressing and a lot are ending. Why do authors feel the need to kill off so many characters near the ends of ther stories? I like happy endings, who doesn't?

What has twilight done!?!

I went to Barnes and Noble and found a whole section on romance novels for teens with vampires! I believe that once you pick up a book you have to read it. There is no bad books only books you know to avoid now, so i had to get and read Evernight by Claudia Gray. It's totally only out because of Twilight, but you know I enjoyed Evernight just as much as Twilight. Books that no one hypes up I love even more. I liked this book a lot. The main character Biannca is very shy and introverted. Character's like thend to do well with girls my age. The main boy is Lucas, gorgous and sweet of course with his one flaw (he's not a vampire sorry girls). The setting is gorgous. I honestly wouldnt mind going to boarding school in the hills, a huge victorian castle even if there's no cel phone reception. Scary victorian castles and houses are so gorgous, i might want to live on a house like that someday. My favorite thing about this book is unlike Meyer from Twilight, Gray doesn't reinvent the vampire, who on earth thought it should be shinny?! Really!?! Gray even has their fear of crossing running water in there. I love it.

Cheated (1)

Cheated is a book i just started. Written by Patrick Jones. I'm on page 53 and so far I love it. Mick is just a kid, just a kid. Nothing special his dad cheated on his mom and left her, after making Mick choose. Mick was dumped by his girlfriend Nicole after he cheated on her for some sex with a girl who's very easy. His girlfriend won't have sex. he takes full response for the break up. He wants her back that's all he thinks about is her. His best friends drink and smoke and he knows its wrong but i guess that's life you do what you can to be good but mostly you just let life take you where ever it wants. Mick isn't happy with his life, I wouldn't be either if i was him.

Chick Lit

Yes, I hate to admit it but i was reading Chick Lit. When it Happens by Susane Colasanti. Total chick lit like I have never read before. It's about a girl who wants 'the perfect boy' and I boy who wants that girl. The girl's name is Sara the boys name is Tobey. It's a pathetic story of love and what it takes to find it. Chick lit isn't good for much except to make you feel happy or sad depending on if you finish the book. Sara falls for the wrong boy first, he only wants sex, we all know people like that but it always stinks horribly when you find out someone you love is like that. Mean, rude, hurtful, and only after sex. Then she begins to fall for the other boy supposedly he's a slacker. Sometimes you know, he's right when he talks about school. Kids who are smart like him, don't need to do the homework teachers tell him will help to understand the concepts. He understands them right away but he's lazy he won't do the homework, he gets by in school by just acing the tests.

Wicked Lovely

I read Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr because my aunt gave it to my for Christmas. It's a fantasy book about a girl who sees fey (fairies) and one falls in love with her. She refuses him, which i was so proud of because I hated the fey king. Cocky stupid boys are not my thing, especially ones that know how pretty they are. Plus her human boyfriend was kick butt! He has studs in his lips and tattoos and other piercing. The story's theme is being strong being who you are, and that you have choices. The book was mostly well written and the description was amazing. I love stories that show people with tattoos and piercing and dyed hair as special, as important and as people. Everyone gives those kids crap in high school.  The woman who wrote the book isn't overly if at all tattooed or pierced. She understands that girls like that are nice, and normal they have problems like everyone else. Its nice for once to know that. The cover art is lovely, all blues and purples. I love it. Winter Queens and Summer kings rule the Fey world, such gorgeous art is imagined and its so amazing her descriptions. I love it I recommend you read it.

What does your fingerprint tell me? If I have the right data base, your name, birthday all that. What about if you fired a gun today? No? BUZZ! Yes! The article I found about your fingerprints talks about all the new things they can tell from your fingerprint from what drugs your using to if you've used explosives or a gun that day! They can already detect a lot of drugs cocaine, heroine, nicotine, morphine, THC (marijuana), methadone and a derivative of methadon. Also can detect some medical conditions, severe ones like cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and others that produce chemical leaked into the skin oils and sweet. They have new anti-biotic that can detect all of these in your fingerprints. Weirdness!! Imagine that, you look at someone's fingerprint and you can name them and all the drugs they use. Crime is getting easier to solve everyday!

Twilight's director

Please plug your ears, Twilight, sorry i know every time that word is said a million girls scream. I personally am not a HUGE fan of it. I have read the books i saw the movie and you know i can recommend a million books you'd like just as much but are better written, but this isn't a rant about Twilight (sorry). I read this article about the Director for T******t not being brought back because her and the producer don't get along. It shows how important it is to get along with people you don't like your entire life. It can be hard to get along with these people and even for famous adults. Sadly the woman Catherine Hardwicke the director won't be working on New Moon.

END OF THE BRATZ!

I couldnt be more happy! The Bratz doll has been ended! The brat dool was canceled for legal reasons but I'd like to have a rant about those dolls. Those dolls are nasty! They wear clothing way to small and too much make up. They're the Barbie dolls of our time, ill-praportioned, too-showy-clothing for target age, and almost (gasp language) slutty. I hate how popular these dolls and TV shows are they are teaching little girls how to dress and it's not a good way to dress. I am verry happy the judge ruled to put an end to the BRATZ.

College "acceptance"

I read acceptance a novel by Susan Coll. The book revolves around the lives of three teenage seniors, their parents and one college admissions worker. It shows how hard it is to get into College even for kids with amazing grades or test scores. Sometimes its amazing how hard it is for us to grasp our future and how much work we do just to get into college, just insure our future. Acceptance really asks the questions 'who are you?' and more importantly 'who do you want to be?' Harry (who coincidentally has the same name as my little brother) is severely motivated to get into Harvard at any cost and who everyone refers to as AP Harry because of his brains and that in early HS years he was in all AP classes. Maya is a spectacular athlete, and really very smart but her over achieving family is horrified by her average SAT scores. Taylor the last kid is Maya and Harry's neighbor and has perfect grades and SAT scores, but her family life is crazy. She steals mail and almost cuts one or twice one getting caught by Maya in the girls bathroom with a bottle cap pressed to her leg. Taylor's mom is so proud of her daughter and constantly tries to be her best friend even though her mo is into things like shopping and Taylor with her technicolor hair and piercings could think of nothing less fun than going shopping with her mom. Harry's dad was rude and loud and his mom threw him out when Harry was very young even having to go as far as getting a restraining order. Harry gets to see his dad once a month though and ever since Harry was little he has been pressed that the best go to Harvard and Harry s the best! Harry's goal is to get into Harvard no matter what, he works as hard as her can to get into the college finally. Taylor only wants to go to Yates this little school, but has issues writing her essay about something productive. Maya gets into a small school she loves and so does Taylor.
I guess i learned that college is a battle never won.

World's oldest woman/person died

The article was short but it got me thinking. The oldest person in the world was 115! Born 1893! One hundred years before me! Imagine living through all that! The invention of the car, the plane, the computor, the sewing machine. The right for women to vote. The end of segragation. So many wars! I looked it up and before her husband died in 1939 there were 15 wars/conflicts that just the US was involved in! I dont know if I'd want to outlive my famly like that.... either way she lived quite the life, and died famous as I'm sure most people hope to. (Dying in the same nursing home as the worlds tallest woman).
